Database Management

What is Database Management & do I really need it?

Semi-Technical Answer-

Most truck management systems use SQL for database creation and manipulation. While the manufacturer (TMW, Mcleod, etc..) may have provided you a fully functional SQL database, all maintenance tasks fall on the end user. Here’s some of the items we’ve done in the past:

“In English Please” answer…

All the information you enter into your Truck Management System has to be stored somewhere. For the most part, most T.M.S. store it in a database. Failure to do housekeeping items on your database will cause at the very minimum, performance issues. We’ve seen whole I.T. departments chase their tail for months- trying to figure out why their system is so slow. Only to find out the culprit was their database, and nobody had done any maintenance tasks in years! Who knew? At a minimum, you should be spending 2 to 3 hours a week on maintenance tasks. This will become more apparent as you grow.

Cool trick – We’ve done lots of predictive reports, business intelligence and so on with the information that’s stored inside your database, right now! From fancy forward looking predictive reports like “Which driver is most likely to quit on me next?” to reports with names, contact information and e-mail addresses for marketing blasts. “Not only do you need Database Management – you want it,
oh yeah!”
